GOLD UNITE (1635-1636)

Charles I, Stuart King, 1625-1649

Tower Mint under the king, 1625-1642. Crown mintmark. Shoulder-length, smaller, crowned portrait

facing left, wearing lace collar, lovelock on left shoulder; reverse, crowned oval shield with crowned

“CR” at sides. An exceptionally fine example of this variety, on a full broad flan with almost complete

legends, the king’s image quite well detailed, lustrous and choice with lovely gold toning.

Charles I, Stuart King, 1625-1649

Nicholas Briot’s milled coinage. Daisy and “B” mintmark. Shoulder-length, crowned bust facing left,

draped and wearing falling lace collar, value XX (20 shillings) behind head; reverse, crowned U-shaped

garnished shield, crowned “CR” at sides, tiny “B” at top left of crown. Rare. Lustrous and superbly

detailed from Briot’s milled dies, faint wear on high points, beautiful gold color.

Charles I, Stuart King, 1625-1649

Third Coinage of 1637-1642 by Nicholas Briot. Thistle mintmark. Crowned and armored half-length

portrait facing right, holding large orb and scepter; reverse, crowned shield with Scots crest in two

quadrants, crowned “CR” at sides. Lustrous, well detailed, struck on a full broad flan with lovely gold

color, an ideal specimen.
