GOLD TRIPLE UNITE 1644

Charles I, Stuart King, 1625-1649

Oxford mint (1644 OXON). Struck on a smaller and thicker flan. Half-length crowned portrait facing

left, holding sword and olive branch, without scarf, Oxford plume in field behind his head; reverse,

legend of the Declaration, made by the king at Wellington, in three lines on a waving banner. Extremely

rare. One of the finest known examples of this seldom-seen variety of England’s largest gold coin,

minted by hand at the king’s provincial mint during the tumultuous Civil War. A beautiful and sharply

detailed specimen blessed with gorgeous reddish gold toning.

S-2729. N-2385. PCGS-graded AU55.

Charles I, Stuart King, 1625-1649

Oxford mint. “1644 OX” below banner. Plume initial mark. Shoulder-length, crowned portrait facing

left, holding sword and olive branch; reverse, Declaration on three slightly curved lines. Rare. A very

beautiful and lustrous coin having very little actual wear, on a full broad flan showing sharp, complete

the surfaces very choice and sheathed in rich gold toning; an exceptional example.
