1874-CC. Arrows Railroad Variety
.
NGC graded MS-
62+
. Well struck and mostly untoned. This is the variety
with the railroad track like die damage in the legend in
STATES, which adds to the popularity with collectors. Satiny
silver throughout with a solid strike and downright rare this
well preserved. Only a half dozen have been seen techni-
cally finer by NGC of the 1874-CC half dollar, the finest is
MS-64 in their
Census
. One of the tougher issues to find
nice in the Liberty Seated half dollar series, and a coin like
this always has strong demand when it is offered.

. The
obvrese and reverse are bathed in lovely toning with mint fresh
luster evident in the fields. The surfaces are worthy of long and
pleasurable examination as so few of these exist so well pre-
served and this is borne out in the
Population Report
data noted
herein. Merely 3,000 examples are estimated to have survived
and this one is right at the top with just a couple seen any finer.

is spectacular with blended gold and gray patina on both sides,
with lively lustrous fields and a solid strike. A scarce and popular
San Francisco issue, especially when found this well preserved.

toning, especially on the obverse. Merely 1,800 examples
are estimated to have survived for this date and mint, but
far more importantly this is one of the absolute finest
known! The booming luster resides in the fields, while the
surfaces are virtually pristine. An opportunity for the spe-
