1891-O
.
PCGS graded MS-67
. The 1891-O dime is rarely
available in such a superior condition. In fact, there are
only five pieces certified in MS67 between both of the
major services; three are at PCGS, two are NGC. The fully
brilliant surfaces are heavily frosted, and the die flow lines
in the fields and at the margins give the coin a slightly
matte-like appearance. Light die clashing is seen on each
side, and most of the coin is sharply defined, save for the I
of DIME. A Condition Census example.
Pop 3; none finer
at both services.

PCGS graded MS-65.

Well struck
and nicely toned. The multicolor toning on the obverse
enhances the contrast between the field and the devices, while
the reverse has lovely cartwheel luster under a even darker ton-
ing of reddish and turquoise colors. A really gorgeous Gem.

1892-O
.
PCGS graded MS-66
. The surfaces are snow-white
and deeply frosted on this premier-year New Orleans Barber
dime issue. Usually O-mint coins are found with a more sub-
dued, satiny texture, however, on this example, both sides are
gleaming white with no trace of color. The strike details are fully
brought up, another uncommon trait for a New Orleans coin
from this era. We theorize this one might have been a very early
strike that has been carefully preserved over the years.

Lovely ton-

at the obverse center with reddish-gold at the border, while a
similar blue color is at the reverse rim and reddish-gold covers
most of the center. Only 762 pieces were minted.

NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo.

The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices noticeably
frosted as expected of the Superb grade assignment and
Cameo designation. In fact, a truly remarkable effect is
noticed when the coin is turned under a light. Light golden
and ice-blue toning is seen over each side, sometimes mot-
tled, sometimes smoothly textured. A colorfully toned
extremely high-grade type coin. This is certainly one of the
finest of the 731 proof Barber dimes struck in 1897.
