Half Dimes/Dimes
1163
1869
.
PCGS graded MS-66+ PQ.
CAC APPROVED.
A frosty
Gem with bright, untoned luster and exceptional eye appeal.
The strike is bold overall, save for a point in the reverse wreath
opposite the obverse shield. If a exemplary type set or Liberty
Seated half dime collection is in your numismatic sights, it will
do you well to take aim at this impressive example.

.
PCGS graded Proof 66 Cameo.
CAC APPROVED.
The mintage of the 1871 Proof half dime was 960 pieces, from
which this is one of the finest we have seen. It is a nicely toned
example featuring deepening shades of antique-gold at the
outer border areas on each side. The highly preserved quality of
the surfaces proclaims no detracting marks on the devices or
within the delicate reflective fields.

PCGS graded Proof 64
. Open topped D in
UNITED. The center of the obverse exhibits a pebbly effect that
Breen ascribes to die rust. The deep, icy-mirrored surfaces dis-
play rich multicolored iridescence featuring shades of blue and
golden-red. An interesting variety.

PCGS graded EF-40 PQ.
CAC
APPROVED.
Medium steel-gray with hints of blue and attrac-
tive on the reverse, the obverse displays somewhat deeper gun-
metal-blue color. A couple of minor abrasions are also reported
on that side: one at the center of the portrait, the other in the
right field. Still, a difficult dated early dime to find this nice.

PCGS graded F Details, Repaired.
Discoloration is noticed on each side, the result of repairs to the

essential coin for the series specialist. (

PQ.
For 1805 dimes, only two die pairings are known,
these being easily discernible by the berry count on the
reverse -- JR-2 with four berries, JR-1 with five. Both variet-
ies utilized the same obverse die. The five berries variety
was struck first, followed by this four berries variety. A thin
obverse die crack through ERT of LIBERTY is diagnostic of
JR-2. This variety is the second most common die marriage
of all Draped Bust dimes, behind only those seen in 1807.
In addition to the die crack, this example also exhibits fine
clash marks on both sides, and a tiny abrasion in the field
below the eagle's left (facing) wing.
This is an amazing Gem with sharp design details and sat-
iny luster throughout. Both sides exhibit soft reddish-russet
color with peripheral blue and other iridescent toning. The
surfaces are pristine and wonderful. This splendid specimen
possesses remarkable aesthetic appeal and will undoubt-
edly be a prized item for its new owner.
Pop 1; none finer at PCGS for the variety.
