SILVER PENNY (1092-1095)
William II, Norman King of England, 1087-1100
Chichester mint, moneyer Edwine. Crowned, facing portrait between two stars; reverse, voided cross
pattée, annulet at center over a cross having an annulet at the end of each limb. Rare. On a broad flan,
probably less wear from use than softness of strike, reverse cross the best in detail, brownish gray patina.

SILVER PENNY (CIRCA 1121)
Henry I, Norman King of England, 1100-1135
Bury St. Edmunds mint, moneyer Godric. Crowned portrait facing left, holding scepter; reverse, star in
lozenge fleury (a central diamond or sideways square curving inward, a fleur at each angle or tip, and
a trefoil of annulets on each of four sides). Rare. Struck on an irregularly shaped flan (normal for this
period) with a remarkable image of the king, reverse shadowy from strike and possibly from a worn die,
silvery gray patina, ideal on the obverse side.

Stephen, Anarchy or First Civil War of England, 1135-1154
Anarchy or first civil war of England. Probably Southampton (“ANT”) mint, Moneyer Sanson. Crowned
portrait facing right, wearing a collar of annulets and holding a scepter; reverse, voided cross Moline,
annulet at center. Very rare. A technically superior example featuring one of the most detailed image of
this king known, struck on a full broad flan and showing nearly complete, readable legends, and golden
gray patina.
