SILVER PENNY (1092-1095)

William II, Norman King of England, 1087-1100

Chichester mint, moneyer Edwine. Crowned, facing portrait between two stars; reverse, voided cross

pattée, annulet at center over a cross having an annulet at the end of each limb. Rare. On a broad flan,

probably less wear from use than softness of strike, reverse cross the best in detail, brownish gray patina.

S-1260. N-853. PCGS-graded XF45.

SILVER PENNY (CIRCA 1121)

Henry I, Norman King of England, 1100-1135

Bury St. Edmunds mint, moneyer Godric. Crowned portrait facing left, holding scepter; reverse, star in

lozenge fleury (a central diamond or sideways square curving inward, a fleur at each angle or tip, and

a trefoil of annulets on each of four sides). Rare. Struck on an irregularly shaped flan (normal for this

period) with a remarkable image of the king, reverse shadowy from strike and possibly from a worn die,

silvery gray patina, ideal on the obverse side.

S-1274. N-869. PCGS-graded AU53.

portrait facing right, wearing a collar of annulets and holding a scepter; reverse, voided cross Moline,

annulet at center. Very rare. A technically superior example featuring one of the most detailed image of

this king known, struck on a full broad flan and showing nearly complete, readable legends, and golden

gray patina.

S-1295. N-905. PCGS-graded MS62.
