World Crowns and Minors
2982
Great Britain. Mint Error 20 Pence, 1998
. Struck on a small
neat round nickel or cupro-nickel (foreign on NGC holder) plan-
chet, well centred and with a weight of 2.8 grams (normally 5
grams) this may have been produced as a result of experimen-
tation at the British Royal Mint. In the early 1990s the size (and
weight) of the 5 pence and 10 pence coins was reduced dra-
matically, and there is speculation that the same fate was later
considered for the 20 pence coin.

2983

penny copper coated steel planchet/flan, this may also be the
result of experimentation within the Royal Mint. The weight is
approximately 3.6 (normally 5 grams) but the coin appears well
struck and mint state.
