Old Bust, plain reverse. VICESIMO QVARTO edge date. A very choice coin with an unusually bold

strike, obverse toned in shades of bright golden silvery gray, reverse a lovely even silvery gray with

hint of golden hues.

George III, Hanover King, 1760-1820

Young Bust with long periwig; reverse, crowned shield of arms with date split at top. Plain edge. The

royal shield contains the Hanover leaping stallion in its fourth quadrant, first used during the reign of

George II, but here we see it perhaps more boldly displayed than in any other coin. Large gold coins

were fading from use at this time in history, being replaced by paper checks for larger commercial and

bank-to-bank transactions. An era was ending. One of the great treasures of the Tyrant Collection. A

splendid example of one of the rarest coins of this denomination in the entire English series, graced by

delicate reddish gold toning.
