1797. Small eagle. BD-1, Rarity 5
.
NGC graded AU
Details, Improperly Cleaned.
Mostly untoned with a
nice appearance. Only 3,615 struck with the Small Eagle
reverse design, and from that beginning perhaps 60 are
kown today. This coin offers strong definition on the
devices and only minimal signs of circulation along with
normal handling marks in the soft gold surfaces. There are
a couple of trivial adjustment marks on the reverse, but
they are not detracting. This is one of the most underrated
of the early $10 gold pieces as collectors soon learn when
trying to find a suitable example. When these rarities are
offered, they tend to bring a strong price as demand is
never satisfied. Here is an opportunity for one lucky collec-
tor to finally mark this one off their list. (

NGC graded AU Details, Improperly
Cleaned.
A very rare date and seldom offered in any grade
as only 800 oieces were struck for the entire year. This one
has strong definition to offer the collector and nice surfaces
that were cleaned at some time in the past. There are only
about 40 individual examples known today from the original
mintage, and most are around this grade level when found.
A prized rarity for the asutate collector. (
