Very scarce in to grades.

Legend has it that, during the year 1900, president Kruger sent the State of Attorney (J C Smuts) to the Pretoria mint to confiscate

all available specie in order to pay the Boer troops. On the way back it was discovered a number of the seized coins were unstruck

and simply gold blanks, they were, however, the correct weight and were therefore used to pay the troops. There is no record of what

number there were and they are now known as ‘Kraal Ponde’ or more commonly as ‘Rimless Blanke Ponde’.
