. A lightly circulated example of this popular
round dollar, the product of "Unknown Maker C" as listed by
Breen and Gillio. This unknown producer of round and octago-
nal quarters, halves, and dollars was believed to have been
located in San Francisco. The present example is one of the so-
called "Goofy Heads" from this manufacturer and made of gold-
plated silver. Bold details reside lightly hairlined and lightly
abraded gilt fields. An important offering for the California frac-
tional gold collector.
