1904 Lewis and Clark Dollar
.
PCGS graded MS-64 PQ
.
Lovely rich golden toning. Only 10,025 minted. Glowing and
exhibiting warm tones. A very pleasing example of this Com-
memorative Gold Dollar, the second such issue following the
Louisiana Purchase coins of 1903. The luster is smooth, very
choice, and suitably original. As for the devices, these were
struck with plenty of power by the dies which imparted all
design elements evenly, and showing clearly, unlike some where
a few areas remain mushy. (

PCGS
graded Proof 63 Cameo
. Rich golden toning. A Choice,
painstakingly preserved example from a mintage of a mere
100 Proofs for each Louisiana Purchase design. This variety
depicts the recently assassinated President William McKin-
ley, who approved the Louisiana Purchase Exposition that
was held in St. Louis in 1904. The gleaming warm yellow-
gold surfaces exhibit mirror depth to the glassy fields and
an appropriate degree of contrast. Sharply struck on
obverse and reverse, devices cameo frosted. A rare oppor-
tunity for the Commemorative enthusiast whose collection
goes beyond the usual scope to include some special strik-
ings.

. A nice untoned coin. The color is
a rich blend of brilliant pale rose-gold and satin-to-frosted
shades in the luster. Struck with technical exactness through-
out, including McKinley’s hair strands and the detail in the coat
collar, coat button or fraternal pin, and the bow tie. A blazing
Gem.
