Unlike the plentiful tetradrachms of its wealthy neighbors, Arados and Tyre, the late Hellenistic tetradrachms from Sidon are incredibly scarce. Fur-
thermore, they are amongst the most beautiful coins of the region, the engraving of the dies used to strike the coins generally of a very high cal-
iber. Such is the specimen offered here, which has an exceptionally handsome portrait of the city goddess on the obverse and a finely executed
eagle with a fierce expression on the reverse.
