1815 "E" Stamp B-1

.

NGC graded AU-55

. Lightly toned

with deep gray and rose gold and well struck. The fields show

some reflection. Clean surfaces and quite pleasing for this first

year of the new style for the quarter denomination. A really

pleasing example of this tough issue, with the enigmatic "E"

countermark just touching Liberty' s cap. These countermarked

coins, all dated 1815 and 1825, have been widely studied by

generations of numismatists, but no one has yet found any difi-

native proof as to what these letters stood for.

Estimated Value .............................................. $2,400 - 2,500

1818. B-6, Rarity 6

.

NGC graded EF-40

. Evenly toned with

classic silver gray fields and lighter traces on the highpoints of

the design. This is the later die state with the shattered reverse

die, showing multiple cracks common to this die pairing. Highly

collectible at this grade level and probably well within the top

ten known for the Browning-6 issue.

Pop 1; 2 finer for the

variety, 1 in 58, 1 in 64.

Estimated Value .............................................. $3,000 - 3,300

even toning on both sides with soft silver gray with a touch

of rose and blue on both sides. Lustrous in the fields and

the strike is crisp and full on Liberty' s curls, the stars and

even the eagle' s feathers are sharp. A perfect type coin for

the advanced specialist.
