Hegemon(eos?), magistrate.
Facing lion' s scalp.
Reverse:
ΣΑ
, forepart of bull right; to left, laurel branch; above, magistrate' s name:
ΗΓΗΜΩΝ
; all within shallow incuse square. Barron class
X, -; HGC 6, 1218. Underlying luster present, lightly toned.
Rare
The impressive lion' s scalp well struck in high relief.
Extremely Fine/ Very
Fine
.
The magistrate is recorded by neither Barron nor Hoover. Hoover erroneously lists a magistrate by the name of
ΗΓΗΜΩΝΕΟΣ
, but this is
actually the patronymic of
ΑΛΚΜΕΩΝ
(Barron class X, 152) and should not have been recorded as a separate magistrate. It is, of course,
entirely possible that the magistrate Hegemon(eos?) seen here is the father of the (later) magistrate Alkmeon.
