AE "Da Quan Wu Bai" (Large Coin of 500 Cash), 236 -
246 AD.
The large whole type, 29 mm. A beautiful example of
this series issued during severe inflation periods. Was put into
circulation in 236 AD, but rejected by the market due to the
reduced weight, and in 246 AD, the series was recalled after 10
years'struggling. All four characters are sharp and the coin is
covered with even light green patina. A hint of vermilion toning
at 2 o'clock.

AE "Da Quan Dang Qian" (Large Coin of 1,000 Cash),
238 - 246 AD
. Middle-sized type, 33 mm. The same series with
the 500 cash we're also offering in this session. The 1,000 cash
coins were issued since 238 AD, with an original diameter of 36
mm. The size of this coin keep reducing from 36 mm to later 25
mm due to severe inflation, and finally demonetized in 246 AD.
Green toning with some pleasing bright patina spots.
The coin
will grade AG to Good.

Yuan Empire) 10 Cash, 1309 AD
. 'Phags-pa script plain
reverse type, 42.5 mm. A famous and very popular Sino-Mongo-
lian large cash coinage. A very attractive piece with outstanding
rainbow patina, the sea green and russet colors are very well
balanced, and the four characters are all very sharp.

The 'Phags-pa script was invented by Drogön Chögyal Phagpa,
who was the fifth leader of the Sakya school of Tibetan Bud-
dhism. During the reign of Kublai Khan, he was nominated as
the imperial hierarch. He designed the new Mongolian script,
which became the official script in all Mongolian Empires includ-
ing China since 1269.
