. Luxuriant orange-gold color is seen over each side with
light accents of frost everywhere. Keen-edged devices are dis-
played throughout, including Jefferson's wig. Jefferson, by the
way, was a red head with thinning hair according to paintings
done at the time of his Presidency. He wore a wig (as pictured)
which was traditional with both men and women of the wealth-
ier classes in post-colonial America. (

. This smooth-
looking Superb Gem is draped in billowy mint luster and capti-
vating rose-gold color with mint-green accents at the outer
areas. Impressive technical quality and eye appeal for both the
type as a whole and the individual issue. The sale of the McKin-
ley dollars aided in paying for a memorial building at Niles,
Ohio, the fallen president's birthplace. The obverse shows a
profile of McKinley and was designed by Charles E. Barber; the
reverse, with the memorial building was designed by George T.
Morgan.

. The sec-
ond year of this popular commemorative design, the 1917
McKinley Memorial gold dollar is less available than its 1916
counterpart. The two issues were created to provide funding for
the McKinley Birthplace Memorial in Niles, Ohio. The present
example is a spectacular Superb Gem, with intricate detail evi-
dent on all design elements and lustrous, unmarked surfaces.
Reddish-gold and green-gold colors combine when the coin is
viewed under a light.
