Often designated a usurper, Procopius was a general of Julian the Hellene. After Julian was killed in AD 363 in a battle against the Persians,
Procopius led a rebellion at Constantinople, where this coin was struck. Valens, warring against the barbarians on several fronts, had Procop-
ius murdered in AD 366.
